![]() ![]() Since I'm not into gaming, but enjoy the Civ series for occasional diversion from my real work (engineering product development on my Mac Pro) I think the RX 460 is probably good enough, cheap, and no hassle. Since I don't think Apple is ever going to make another Mac Pro with PCI slots, I'd like to get as many years out of this MP as possible so keeping the heat and power supply current down won't hurt. However its about the same performance as the HD 7950 Mac Edition (now $500+) and only consumes about 75 watts. Looks like the RX 460 is cheap ($100+), compatible and supported without Kext mods, but only about 1/2 the performance of the RX 480. I don't really want to screw around with that all the time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like the best performance/dollar (about $200) is the RX 480, but they require Kext mods with each MacOS update. That would be hassle I would prefer to avoid, so I'm inclined to stay with the AMD chips. I get the impression that the later NVIDIA chips aren't supported by Apple any more and require a new driver to be found and loaded whenever Apple updates the MacOS. I'm reading them and scouring the net for more info. ![]()
